Building Goals

On behalf of our Red Hawk students, parents and staff, welcome to Athens High School! Our entire school community is dedicated to providing educational excellence in academics, fine arts and athletics. We take great pride in the number of opportunities our students have to explore their talents and pursue their dreams!

Athens is an exemplary school due to our rigorous curriculum, state of the art facilities and caring faculty. Outstanding parent and community support also make Athens a great place for students to learn and grow. Thank you for visiting our website!

Go Hawks!

Building Goals:

Goal #1 - Teachers and students have noticed, through reflection and qualitative data, a need for increased grit, tenacity, persistence, resilience, self-regulation, and responsibility.  All students will have an authentic, innovative, deep learning experience that exemplifies the Character competency of the NPDL Core Competencies and is measured by a student self-assessment.

Goal #2 - Examining class work, teachers and administrators have observed that the majority of students have limited or emerging achievement evidence as measured on the NPDL Creative competency rubric. All students will have an authentic, innovative, and deep learning experience that exemplifies the Creativity competency, as outlined in the NPDL rubric, and measured by achieving a developing or above Deep Learning Progression proficiency rating.

Goal #3 - Through a social-emotional health survey, 90.7% of students expressed feeling measurable anxiety/stress during school. All students will respond positively to the overall quality of their social, emotional, and physical learning experience and environment, as measured by a qualitative student survey.

We also continue to have individual student success.  A few highlights from last year include: 95 Red Hawks received a 1st Place state, national, and/or international award, 17 were National Merit Commended Scholars, 3 were National Merit Finalists, 13 students obtained a perfect SAT section test score, 3 students obtained a perfect SAT score & 2 students obtained a perfect ACT score. 73 students had above a 4.0 GPA, 18 athletes were given a partial or full college scholarship, and the Class of 2018 earned 6 million dollars in scholarships.

Our ultimate goal is for all of our students to be strong, smart, creative, kind, happy, resilient, and capable, so they can do things that will change their life and the world for the better.

We want for and actively work to ensure all of our students find success and happiness as they and their families define it. We strive for every student to demonstrate 1 year’s growth or more in 1 year’s time, are committed to every student having a Deep Learning experience in every class they attend, and want every student to feel valued, accepted, and happy to be at Athens.
