Participation in sports in the Troy School District is a privilege, not a right. Hard work, dedication, and a desire to compete are essential in being successful in athletics. Athens High School offers 26 varsity and sub-varsity sports for those interested in interscholastic athletics. We strongly encourage students new to Athens High School to get involved in sports. Research has proven that students perform better in the classroom when participating in athletics.

All athletes MUST have a physical and emergency card completed and signed prior to tryouts. Both must be presented to the coach before trying out for any team. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Redhawks Sluggish in Loss to Blue Devils.

After a disappointing one point loss @ Troy on Tuesday, the Lady Redhawks came out flat on Parent/Senior Day in their regular season finale against the visiting Blue Devils from Grosse Pte. South. Both teams started out slow on Thursday, but the Blue Devils scored enough to lead 8-6 after one quarter. Yasmeen Dabish had 4 points in the quarter to lead the Lady Redhawks. The 2nd quarter was much of the same as both defenses controlled the game, but again the visitors were able to hold off the home team and take a 15-12 lead into the half. The Blue Devils held the Redhawks to just 4-3rd quarter points and extended their lead to 25-16 entering the 4th quarter. In the 4th quarter, Grosse Pte. extended their lead to 17 points, but the Redhawks clawed their way back and pulled to within 9 points. But, the deficit was too much and the Lady Redhawks fell 42-32 to the Blue Devils. Farida Youssef & Abby Malone each had 4-4th quarter points to try and make up that deficit to no avail. Yasmeen Dabish led the ladies with 7 points & 11 rebounds (6 offensive), Abby Malone had 4 points, 4 rebounds & 4 steals and Alex Link had 4 points & 3 boards. Farida Youssef contributed 5 points & 5 steals. The loss dropped the Lady Redhawk’s overall record to 9-13. They will open up Districts on Monday, March 4th @ home at 7:00 against White Division Co-Champs Bloomfield Hills. Before the game both teams celebrated the senior players from Grosse Pte. South and the seniors (Katy Keller, Ava Lauder, Captain Abby Malone, Captain Grace Salem & Kellyn Weatherspoon) from Athens. Thank you ladies for your time, effort & leadership towards your team. You are all deeply appreciated and will be missed! We Love You All.

Overtime is a Winning Formula for JVB Lady Redhawk Basketball Team.

In the season finale our JVB Lady Redhawks Basketball Team welcomed in the Black Hawks from Bloomfield Hills. The 1st quarter was a back and forth affair as the Redhawks took an early lead only to see the Black Hawks score late, but still trail 11-10 after one quarter. Savannah Byrum had 5 points & 3 rebounds and Madison Stencel had 4 points & 2 assists in the quarter. The second quarter was a bit sluggish by both teams as the Black Hawks scored early to take the lead and held on to that lead 16-13 heading into halftime. Both teams came out of the locker rooms aggressive. Bloomfield Hills scored the 1st 4 points of the quarter to open up a 7 point lead. But, Brenna Jones hit a 3 pointer, Savannah had a nice dribble move and a free throw and Charlotte Cotta had a jumper to tie the score at 20-20. In the last minute the Black Hawks rallied for 6 straight points to take a 26-20 lead entering the 4th quarter. Bloomfield Hills carried that momentum into the 4th quarter and hits back to back threes to take a 32-20 lead a couple of minutes into the quarter. But, the Lady Redhawks showed no quit as they got 2 steals in a row and a bucket from Samantha Kolpak to cut the lead to 10. A free throw by Savannah and another bucket from Sam and the lead is down to 7 with 2 minutes to play. After a timeout the Redhawks get 2 free throws by Savannah and a third bucket by Sam to cut the lead to just 3 points with 40 seconds left in the game. After getting a turnover off their press, the Redhawks go low to Savannah and she gets fouled. She splits the free throws and the lead is down to 2 points with 10 seconds left. With the Athens team pressing, they get a turnover at half court with 7.5 seconds left in the game. They inbound the ball to Ashasri Daram who dribbles across the court with 3.5 seconds left and passes to Savannah on the right block. She catches, spins and puts up the shot. The buzzer sounds and the ball goes through the basket! The game is tied 32-32 and we go to overtime. In that 4 minute overtime the Lady Redhawks opened the scoring with a corner 3 from Ashasri, Madison Stencel with an assist to Sam for a bucket and Ash with an assist to Sam for another 2 pointer to open a 7 point lead with 2:03 left. The Black Hawks get a quick bucket and after a traveling call on Athens, Bloomfield scores again to cut the lead to 3 with 29 seconds left. The Redhawks inbound the ball and work it around as the buzzer sounds and the ladies celebrate a hard fought victory over the Black Hawks 39-36. Savannah Byrum led the Lady Redhawks (13 points & 9 boards), Samantha Kolpak (10 points, 5 steals & 2 blocks) and Madison Stencel (6 points, 12 rebounds, 6 steals & 4 assists). The win raises the Redhawks final record to 18-2. Great win and outstanding season ladies!

JVA Lady Redhawks Basketball Team Wins Season Finale.

The Lady Redhawk’s JVA Basketball Team welcomed in the Blue Devils from Grosse Pte. South for both team’s season finale and came away with 43-32 win. The Blue Devils jumped out to the early 1st quarter lead 14-12, but the Redhawks came back with a strong 2nd quarter to take a 27-18 lead into halftime. Jaya Jackson had 14-1st half points and Annabelle Beaubien & Erica Obra each had 4 points apiece. The Lady Redhawks extended their lead to 10 points heading into the 4th quarter with Anya Sundaresan hitting a 3 pointer to lead the ladies. In the 4th quarter the Redhawks extended their lead to 17 only to have the Blue Devils hit 2-3 pointers and a couple of free throws to cut the lead down to 9. But, in the end the Lady Redhawks prevailed and won by 11. Lulu Thaqi hit a big 3 pointer and Taryn Fritzsching added 4 points in the final quarter. Jaya led the offense with 14 points, Taryn Frtizsching with 7, Annabelle Beaubien with 6 and Vyshnavi Narayan & Erica Obra had 4 apiece. With the victory the JVA team finishes with a 13-8 overall record. Nice win ladies and congratulations on a nice year!
